In compliance with Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry regulations around the COVID-19 pandemic, Passion for Pets Rescue (PPR) is curtailing a portion of our operations. You will continue to see new rescues on our adoption pages, and we will continue to accept and process applications, but we are unable to place dogs located out-of-state in their new home until Governor Mills’ Executive Order is lifted.
Passion for Pets Rescue (PPR) is a non-profit, insured and state licensed rescue, run by volunteers. We are a small group of like minded folks with big hearts. PPR does not have an actual shelter, all of our dogs are in foster homes in Maine or with our Southern and Mid-western partners.
We rely heavily on volunteers. Most folks have skills that they don't realize can help.
PPR covers all medical expenses. The majority of the dogs we rescue require immediate veterinary care. Skin infections and internal parasites are common occurrences. We pay for all spay & neuter surgeries. PPR makes sure all dogs are given age appropriate vaccinations, as well as, preventative medication for heartworm and external parasites.
It is illegal in the states of Maine, New Hampshire & Massachusetts for a dog or puppy to get off any transport and go directly to the adopting family. All dogs are fostered for at least 48 hours or five days, depending on age, prior to going to their forever homes.
